Student government travels to Charleston for SCASC State Convention

This past weekend, some members of Airport’s student government traveled to Cane Bay High School, March 17-19 2017, for State, an annual convention run by South Carolina Association of Student Council. Every year, schools in SCASC come together to express ideas, make memories, and have fun. This event gives students, grades 6-12, the chance to step out of their comfort zone and make friends.

SCASC State Convention also lets schools enter themselves for judgement of a certain category. For example, you can win awards based on school spirit, and different activities your school does. Airport won second place for community service, and first place for fundraising.

At SCASC, students have the choice to do a workshop. At workshops, the students create a PowerPoint based on any idea, or event they think should be shared with other school’s student government. Two of Airport’s students, Miranda H. and Kourtney W., hosted a workshop about fundraising, specifically Charity Drive. They were able to share the accomplishments of this year's Charity Drive with other schools.

Everyday, different speakers talk to SCASC. Kevin L., Phil B., and many others spoke during this weekends convention.

State gives all of the students many opportunities to make friends and meet new people. One of the activities they hold is a dance. The dance is a fun place for all of the delegates, and has something for everyone to enjoy. Students from all over the state bond at the dance.

Each year the SCASC State Convention continues to bring more and more people together in unique ways.
