REVIEW: Split
Split, a horror movie released nationwide on January 20, is the latest horror film to misunderstand why mental illness should not be taken lightly; it's also having a negative effect on Airport students with actual mental illnesses.
Split is about a serial killer with a split personality disorder.
“Not only do I hate the fact that people with mental illnesses are portrayed as beast[ly] and savages, but I hate the fact that people find this enjoyable,” said Jaylnn, a current freshman at Airport High.
“Mental illness shouldn't be taken as a joke many people live a lifetime of endless suffering from them. Not only do they [the cast & crew of the movie] make it seem like mental illnesses are the worst thing you could have but they make it seem like if you do have it you must be a horrible crazy individual,” stated Jazmin.
The movie has gotten a 76% likability from critics, according to Rotten Tomatoes, and a 62% likelihood of the actual intended audience loving it.
The majority of student at Airport seemed to hate the movie while in the other hand I thought and felt very different about the movie. I felt as if the movie was actually giving you the best insight you could have (from hollywood's point of view ) on how people with mental illness are. Many part of the movie did seem to be a little over dramatic about how mental patients may or may not act but for the most part I believed it was a good movie.
