Don't get a credit card, especially as teenager
Every year thousands of teens fall into debt because of credit cards. Yet, according to one source online, over 54 percent of college freshmen carry a credit card. Many credit card companies come on college campuses to get college students to get credit cards. This is how many teens get into debt. I don't think that teens should carry credit cards because most teens aren't very smart with money and will most likely spend their money on unnecessary things which can lead them to debt.
One reason teens should not have credit cards is because majority of teens are not wise when it comes down to money. We tend to spend our money on expensive clothes, shoes, and other things that we don't necessarily need. Most teens don't set up a budget and that’s not very smart. They spend money carelessly on things they want instead of things that they need. Personally, I don't think that it's smart for me to carry a credit card because I love shopping and I know that I would overspend.
Another reason teens should not have credit cards is because it can lead to a long road of debt. Carelessly spending can be your downfall. If you know that you're not going to be able to pay back the money that you spend using a credit card then you shouldn't use it. The more deeply you go into debt, the higher the interest rates and fees get. When this happens, teens tend to get overwhelmed and frustrated causing them to drop out of school or even commit suicide to escape it. Debt is no joke.
Also teens should not have credit cards because if they get in debt it can affect their credit score. When it negatively affects their credit score, it can cause them to miss out on getting a certain type of job, getting an apartment or house, or admission into college. Your credit score is very important and getting in debt can ruin it.
Although many people believe that with credit cards they can buy things they can't afford, I don't think people should do that. Teens buy things like cars or pay for their tuition on a credit card, which they really cannot afford. You shouldn't buy something so expensive using credit if you know you can't really afford it.
Therefore, teens should not carry credit cards. Many bad things can happen as a result of them having one such as debt, overspending, and bad credit. Many teens don't have good spending habits and purchase things that they don't necessarily need.
