Sports good for students

According to Reference.com, almost 80% of the students that play sports stay out of trouble. If you did play a sport, did it keep you out of trouble? It probably did because if you are busy participating in a sport, what time is there left to get into trouble? Staying out of trouble is one of the many reasons students play sports and parents want them to, but there many other pros--and some cons--to this view. Most people think that playing sports is a good thing, but others think sports are horrible because it is too much work and they don't want to get hurt, and I see what they are saying. However, all students should at least try to play a sport once in their lives because students who play sports get a better education, stay out of trouble, and exercise more.

First of all, students who play sports for their school often wind up getting a better education. I say that because they are likely to pay attention more and focus on their grades more so they don't get in trouble by their coaches. So if they get bad grades they might not even play the next game because you would not need good grades in order to play sports; so if you get ’s A’s and B’s but you're not good at that sport, you are more likely to play the next game than the person that is really good but gets D’s and F’s as their grades. In other words, there is a motivation built into the sport to get good grades so that you can remain eligible to actually play in the games. Also you need to get a better education to try and to get a scholarship to pay for college for you. Even though colleges used to overlook bad grades and accept athletes based purely on their athletic ability, those days are over, and colleges will no longer give scholarships to those who do not meet academic eligibility requirements.

Secondly, students that play sports most of the time exercise a lot; for example, if you play football you exercise almost everyday whether if you're running or lifting weights. Also when you exercise you lose weight. Losing weight is a good thing because you don’t want to get tired easily from being overweight or out of shape. If you are in the middle of a game and you are just worn out and can’t do anything then you might cause your team the game. Another thing is that if you exercise you look better than you did before. Most of the time, once you lose weight you look better and healthier. Sports don’t only cause weight loss but can have other health benefits as well. According to a study by the National Institute of Health cited by Project Play on their website, leisure-time physical activity is associated with reduced risk of 13 different types of cancer, including breast, colon, liver and myeloid leukemia In short, doing sports is good for your health in a variety of ways.

Lastly, like I mentioned in my introduction, if you play sports you stay out of trouble. This is a good thing because if you keep getting in trouble you could get kicked of of the team or not play the next game. Now most people that I know they like playing in games or matches or whatever sport you do. Also it is a good thing for school because if you are practicing for like 3 to 4 hours than in that time you are focused on practice and not getting in trouble. Sports also keeps you out of trouble because you are constantly busy. According to statistics found on Business Insider, college athletes practice an average of 40 hours per week; that’s 40 hours that they can’t spend getting into trouble. If you constantly busy then you can’t get in trouble right? Next thing is that sports keeps you being active.

Although some people think that sports are a good thing some people do not think it is a good thing. Some of their reasons are that if you play sports you don't have enough time when you get home to do your homework. Also a reason is that students say that you can get hurt badly and/or even death possibly, like what happened to that football player at River Bluff last August Students and teachers also say that when you play sports your grades go down. Another reason they say sports is a bad thing is because if you have to travel far away most of the time you get out of school early, which takes out your time from learning and the teachers time to teach what you missed earlier. Even though these examples may be true, the pros of playing sports while in school that I have mentioned nevertheless outweigh the cons.

Ultimately, as shown sports can be a good thing to do for school, but it can also be a bad thing too. The benefits of having sports in school are that it helps people stay active and healthy. It also helps and encourages students to work together as a team which that may be helpful in class too. From experience of playing sports, I know how hard it is to stay focused on your school work and homework because it can be very stressful. Wrestling helped me by keeping me active and staying out of trouble. It also helped me with communication and discipline, which will help me in the future. Sports and school aren't always easy, but life isn't easy either.
