Students share thoughts on how ACT is timed
Recently students here at Airport High School are going through constant preparation for the ACT. It is only the second semester, third quarter of the school year, but kids' knowledge is now put to the test.
This test, which took over ten years in school to prepare for, gives students three to fours to show what they know. This affects students' futures in college and makes them feel stressed to have to complete the test in such a short time.
ACT is a standardized test that the state gives and tests students knowledge on five core subjects. This includes English, math, reading, science and writing (optional) under three to four hours. This is part of the college application that students in the 11th and 12th are tested on.
The problem that seems to occur is not enough testing time for students. Students should feel prepared for these test but part of the problem is the preparation process. The state suspects student's to give their all under a certain amount of time that took years to prepare for. The state sets the same standard for all students across South Carolina. This could be hurting their testing scores.
A student here at Airport stated that they prefer that the test is “timed” but “prep classes need a better improvement.”
Another student at Airport high school said they feel too rushed and are tested on things they haven't learned yet.
Students feel that the ACT should NOT be timed because the time given to the them isn't enough.
The ACT has five sections. English is 75 questions with 45 minutes, math is 60 questions with 60 minutes, reading is 40 questions with 35 minutes, and science is 40 questions with 35 minutes. There is also a writing section that is optional.
If you currently are a student preparing for the ACT a web site will be listed below.
