Hailey Stokes wins Miss Aquila

On Saturday, February 4, the Miss Aquila pageant took place at Airport High School.

Miss Aquila is one of the school’s most popular and most participated-in yearly traditions.

Hailey Stokes is the overall winner of Miss Aquila 2017, but Brooks-Lynne Lowery won three awards, including Miss Senior, Miss Congeniality, and Director’s Choice.

The girls were practicing hard from 5:30 to 7:00 every night the week before, to make sure it would be perfect. The contestants blew away the judges and audience away, with their Old Hollywood theme wear. Of note, people have said the judges took longer to judge this group of girls longer than previous years.

Ashleigh Smith, Miss Freshman said, “Waiting for the judges to tally up the scores for 45 minutes in 6 inch heels was gruesome and painful,”

One of the many reasons Miss Aquila is successful is because the girls who are involved say they have an amazing time bonding during the pageant.

Miss Aquila is one of the many traditions at Airport. Also this month is our yearly boy’s pageant, Mr. Eagle. Mr. Eagle is a part of our charity drive, where the students and faculty of Airport, along with the community, raises money for Camp Kemo.

Our Miss Aquila pageant is every year, during the first week of February. Students can sign up at the beginning of the school year. Mrs. Reamer has more information.
