Airport wrestling hosted first two rounds of playoffs
On February 4th, 2017, the Airport Wrestling Team hosted the first and second rounds of the playoffs here at Airport High School.
This event is important as the sport of wrestling here at the school is awfully overshadowed by the other major sports, like football, basketball, and baseball, and with this recent insurgence of success in the sport at AHS, media coverage could lead to its gaining way in more popularity.
For the first round of the playoffs, the team wrestled against Travelers Rest. Travelers Rest is an upstate team from the Greenville area. They didn't even have a full lineup so we started the match with points on the board due to there forfeits. They ended up beating them and with that win it advanced us to the second round to face #9 York.
After beating Travelers Rest, the team faced ranked #9 York. The team had previously worked really hard for this match knowing that this could be the end of the season. When they wrestled it was a close match and it came down to the last match and when AHS won it, they won the match and it advanced us to the third round of the playoffs.
One of the key components for the big win this past weekend were the wrestlers making weight and wrestling there heart out. Mark Hiers, a sophomore wrestler here at the high school said, “I’m ready for This weekend because i think the team is going to do good and I can't wait to see how far we go” Mark expressed his love for the team and how he hopes they go all the way.
The main opinion for this article is that how it expresses how good the team did this weekend and how we won the first two rounds of the playoffs and advanced to the third round.
