REVIEW: Glass Sword
The novel Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard is the sequel to the Red Queen series. The main character, Mare Barrow, has changed from a selfish, naive girl to someone who is courageous and cares for others. Now that her secret is out she must use that to fight for what she believes in; even if that means hurting the one she loves. In this novel, Mare is on a quest to search for others like her and help them to stand for what's right, for their own sake.
What hook me to this book was the character, Mare Barrow. She is so different from Adelina Amouteru in The Young Elites series, which I have written about previously, it's like a fresh view of eyes on the crooked world of their story. Mare has came along way from being not important to the key to making the world a better place. She has now realized her duty in the world and she must fight the one she had foolishly trusted. Her eagerness to find others shows how her character thinks about others and acts on different situations.
The second reason why this book was my choice of interest is the setting and plot of the story. The whole idea of “Reds” and “Silvers” reminds me of the game of checkers or chess. Being a Red is describing you as basic, unimportant, you only bleed red blood, but being a Silver is being royal, powerful, and that's why you bleed silver.
The diction and the descriptive vocabulary allows me to visualize the background of that time and situation and most importantly the characters. The author describes the characters as actual people, but they have unusual abilities. Otherwise you could picture them being a real life person.
The book is available from a variety of booksellers.
