Grab a 'Buddy' for "Elf Jr. the Musical"

On December 1 and 2, Airport High School drama and chorus students performed their winter play/musical.

The play was entitled Elf Jr. the Musical. Being based off of the comedy film, Elf, the play obviously contained a good amount of humor within its scenes. Despite the musical being a comedy, it still had its serious and even heartwarming moments, showing off cheery, heartfelt Christmas spirit.

The cast members did a fantastic job and executed the scenes, acting, singing, and dancing pretty well. It was a very rare occurrence for a member of the cast to forget their lines, mess up the lyrics of a song, or lose their rhythm during the choreographed dancing. Many families and friends showed up to watch the school’s show, along with many children, who really seemed to have a good time. Speaking for the audience, the play was very good and generally enjoyed by everyone who was in the crowd. Many smiles were seen and many laughs filled Airport High School’s auditorium.

Adam D., who played as Santa Claus and has been in two other AHS plays, says what appealed to him most about Elf Jr. the Musical was that the teachers who helped produce the play took a fairly well known movie, such as Elf, and turned it into something that a kid could go to and see live.

Adam D. also stated that even though the whole cast didn’t see eye to eye, “the overall experience was amazing” being a part of the production. He particularly liked how he and other members of the crew got to meet new people and also reconnect with other friends, who they don’t normally see during school hours.

“My favorite scene was when Buddy and Walter finally come to terms and forgive each other for their wrongdoing,” Adam D. explains.

It very much so seemed that the crowd in the audience and the cast and crew members had a good time and enjoyed the experience of viewing and performing in Airport’s rendition of Elf in Elf Jr. the Musical.

Tyler B. (Buddy the Elf) throws “snow” at people in the audience.
