Tech advances continue to impact Gen Y, millennials
As new technological advancements are produced, it’s painfully obvious that they are gradually impacting the newer generations of today. Most young children have already been introduced to things like smartphones and tablets and most children's toys are now touch screen electronics. Its obvious that the further the technological world grows, the harder it is for children to socialize and interact with people as generations did before.
Its no secret that schools have behavioral issues with today’s youth and their constant need to be using their cell phones. Most of them only know how to socialize through text and find it difficult to call or talk to anyone in person. It’s not uncommon to see anxiety become a major issue within today's youth when it comes to socializing with other people in person.
According to various news statistics websites, two thirds of children ages 4-7 have an ipod, 6% of children ages 3-5 years old own their own smartphones, and 50% of 11 year olds have smartphones as well. An average teenager sends around 3,339 texts a month, though it varies. While teen females send an average of 4,050 texts a month, teen males tend to send an average of around 2,539 texts a month. Also on average US teens 13 to 17 own multiple devices like a smartphone, laptop or computer, or a tablet or gaming console.
Kailynne C., a senior at Airport high school, said, “Today's youth is becoming more and more dependent on technology. It helps in some ways but in others not so much.it’s a great place to find information for children, but it also is very distracting to them as well with social media and apps distracting them from their educations, and makes them lazy too.”, when asked how she feels technology impacts today’s youth.
Technology is a huge impact on today's generations, and it's only to grow more with generations to come.
