AHS students "tie" one on for victory

If you would have walked around Airports campus last Friday, September 16, you would have noticed a few students wearing ties. But why? It was an attempt to get more school spirit out of students by encouraging them to wear bow ties to “tie the game” or "tie one on for victory." The game was played against Orangeburg-Wilkerson, which Airport has only played against in the playoffs.

Maybe students would agree that school spirit has tremendously gone down the past couple of years, and Airport is willing to try anything to help its students be more involved in its sports.

Although many students didn't come out, a good amount still showed up to support our boys. Maybe this was discouraging to the players as Orangeburg-Wilkerson students cheered on their home team. According to Trevahn R. (more commonly known as Tre), sophomore at AHS and #52 on the football team, "Not many of those few students were wearing ties [came out to the game].”

Adrianna Perkins, freshman at Airport, was of the very few students seen wearing a day Friday during school. “I think this was just an effort to get more students out to the game,” she explained.

Airport lost 31-26 Friday night. “Although we played hard, we couldn't finish the game and get the win.” Tre reported. When asked about our next game though, the had a very positive outlook. “Despite loosing our game this week, next Friday should be played better.”

It was a good attempt to try to get as many students out as possible. It shows how important it is for students to help encourage our football players. Maybe If it were something even more creative or interested, more students would have participated.

Airports next game will be at 7:30 against mind land valley. Come out to support our Eagles!
