AHS girls get ready this fall for softball spring season
Airport High School is already getting ready for the upcoming softball season this spring.
This year softball started a little early because of the new coaches they found. With new coaches this year, there is hope that the softball team will make it far in their season and playoffs.
For the past years the coaches have changed every single year, for junior varsity and varsity, making it hard for some girls to adjust every year to new coaches.
The team usually consist of 12 girls on varsity and 12 girls on junior varsity. Seniors have to make varsity in order to play.
“I'm super excited for this season, I mean it's my senior year!” said senior Emilee F. She is one out of just a couple of seniors that are trying out this year.
“Hopefully more seniors try out this year because we only have a couple coming back from last year, and there are really good girls out there, they'll just never out because they don't try out,” said Emilee.
Emilee added, “If we all work together to make everyone better and if we all try to be better, I feel like we can overcome anything that some sour way.”
Some girls are really excited about the season but some are worried that having new coaches again will affect the performance of the team, like it has the past couple of years.
According to a survey done by the NCAA more than 70% of public schools around the US have a softball team.
Coach Wilbourne is actually a teacher at AHS and the other two coaches, dubbed “The Keslers,” are twins and coaches a couple years back. They also were softball stars at Airport a while back when they were in high school.
