15 things to do after an early release day

After an Early Release day there are a variety of things high school students do with the extra time. Sometimes students struggle with figuring out what to do with that extra time. Here’s a list of 15 things to do after an early release day.


  1. Shopping- Many students like to go shopping on early release days. Some popular shopping spots near Airport are the Target in Lexington or the Columbiana Mall in Harbison. Students even like going to stores with their friends and picking out outfits for each other to try on. 


  1. Going to Get Food- Lots of students like to go and get food either by themselves or with their friends. If you are looking for a good meal many students like going to San Jose or Chick-Fil-A. If you are looking for a fun drink and maybe just a snack many students like to go to Starbucks. Abigail N, sophomore on Airports soccer team, said, “I like going to go get food because I don’t eat lunch at school on early release days.”


  1. Going to the Movies- Students like to go to the movies with their friends. Some good theaters nearby are the Regal cinemas and the AMC theaters. Popular movies out right now are The Ballad of the Songbirds and Snakes, Five Nights at Freddys, and the new Mean Girls. 


  1. Go to the Trampoline park- Some students like to go to the trampoline park after school with their friends. Summit and Hiwire are two of the most popular ones near Airport. There are many different activities to do at the trampoline parks. You can jump, play games like dodgeball, or do a mini ninja course. 


  1. Go to the arcade- There are many popular arcades near Airport. Dave and Busters and Frakies are the two most popular arcades for teens. Not only do these locations have games they also have food, and frankies have other attractions like, go karts, laser tag, and batting cages. 


  1. Go to the bowling alley- The bowling alley is a popular place for teens to go when they have extra time. Many teens like to go to the bowling alley with their friends and compete with them to see who the best bowler is. Many bowling alleys also have food options. 


  1. Hang out with friends- When some students don't want to go out and spend money they will go hang out with friends. Many times they just go over to someone's house and hangout for the rest of the day. 


  1. Go to a sports field- Students may like to go to a sports complex to get some extra practice in. Some Students go with friends and others go by themselves. This is a great way to spend the extra time and better yourself. Timothy R., a senior at Airport Port High said, “I like playing soccer after an early release day so I can stay in shape for soccer and it’s fun.”


  1. Go to the park- Some students go to the park either by themselves or with friends. Going to the park is a cheaper option than going out, and it's still fun for all ages.


  1. Study- Students may use this time to catch up on school work and study. This is a great time to get caught up, and not spend money or have to be around people if you don't want to. 


  1. Volunteer- Some students may want to volunteer with the extra time they have. There are many places to volunteer like, harvest hope, pet places, and Abbey Road Hospice.


  1. Work- Many students take the opportunity to pick up an extra shift at work. Many high school students have jobs to make themselves money and get ready for life after high school. Using this time for an extra shift is a great way to make a little extra money.


  1. Spend time with pets- Some students might want to go home and spend time with their pets. A student could take them for a walk, teach them new tricks, or just play with them in the yard. 


  1. Hang out with family- Students may take this time as an opportunity for family bonding. A family could play board games, watch a movie, or play in the yard together. This is a great way to spend time with family while also relaxing. 


  1. Go home and take a nap- A lot of students just go home after the early release day. With the extra time a student could get caught up on some sleep they may need and reset their mind for the next day of school. 


These are just some ideas of what a student can do with their extra time. There is a wide variety of things to do around Airport High School after an early release day, and sometimes it’s hard to choose what to do.
