  • American Youth Leadership Program (*FREE*) - This provides opportunities for students and educators to travel abroad on a three- to four-week exchange program.
     

  • AmeriCore ($ PAYS $)  - Program that engages more than 75,000 Americans (ages 16+) in intensive service each year at nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based groups across the country.
     

  • APSA Scholarships (*FREE*) - APSA provides scholars for students to participate in short-term abroad experiences.  The organization aims to foster global-ready American citizens by equipping high school youth with the skills, experiences and connections necessary to navigate future careers in an increasingly hyperconnected and interdependent world.
     

  • BirthRight Israel (*FREE*) -  For anyone of Jewish heritage between 18-25 years old, the BirthRight program will provide a free ten-day trip to Israel. This typically includes roundtrip airfare, accommodations, meals, and admission to tourist sites. 
     

  • Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (*FREE*- This program provides merit-based scholarships to high school students, recent vocational graduates and young professionals for an academic year of study in Germany.
     

  • EF Tours Global Citizen Scholarship (*FREE*) - The Global Citizen Scholarship is awarded annually to students who strive to be global citizens in their daily lives and demonstrate a commitment to tackling global issues.

  • Global Kids - Global Kids' summer programs build global competency by informing students about critical foreign policy issues, providing opportunities for travel, and connecting them with international affairs experts and peers worldwide. 
     

  • Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study Abroad (YES Abroad) (*FREE*) - This program provides merit-based scholarships to study abroad for an academic year.
     

  • National Geographic Student Expeditions - Summer trips for teens all organized through NG; trips cost money but scholarships are available. 
     

  • National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y)  (*FREE*) - This opportunity provides merit-based scholarships to learn less-commonly studied foreign languages in summer and academic year immersion programs abroad.
     

  • PeaceCorp ($ PAYS $) - Two-year program for U.S. citizens 18 and older who are curious about the world and committed to helping others.  
     

  • South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts & Humanities (*FREE*) - Located in upstate SC, this is a year-long public residential high school for emerging artists. The school gives artistically talented high school students from across the state the opportunity to study their art in a supportive environment of artistic and academic excellence. 
     

  • South Carolina Governor's School for Science & Mathematics (*FREE*) - Located in Hartsville, SC, this is a year-long residential high school for academically motivated juniors and seniors pursuing studies in science, technology, engineering and math.

FOR AMERICAN TEACHERS TO WORK/TRAVEL  ABROAD
  • Educational Partners International, LLC (EPI) - Educational Partners International  recruits international exchange teachers from a variety of countries to teach in South Carolina and other states.  EPI recruits teachers in all subject areas including math, science, French, German, Japanese, early childhood, elementary and special education. EPI is based in Black Mountain, NC. 
     

  • Foreign Academic and Cultural Exchange Services (FACES) - FACES recruits qualified educators from around the world to teach in the USA, specifically in South Carolina. Subject areas include special education, foreign languages (Spanish, French, German, Latin), mathematics, general elementary, chemistry, physics, biology, art and music. FACES is based in Columbia, SC.
     

  • Global Teaching Partners - This agency provides recruitment, placement and ongoing support of K-12 Academic and Cultural Exchange (ACE) teachers that want to gain experiential knowledge of the U.S., participate actively in cross-cultural activities with schools and communities while preparing students to be thoughtful and compassionate global citizens.
     

  • International Leaders in Education Program (ILEP) - ILEP offers semester-long professional development opportunities at US universities. The program consists of academic seminars on leadership, curriculum development, lesson planning, instructional technology, and new teaching methodologies. 
     

  • Participate (formerly VIF) - Based in Chapel Hill, NC, this program brings teachers from 50 nations (e.g. Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Ecuador, France, Germany, Ireland, Jamaica, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Peru, South Africa, Spain, the United Kingdom and Venezuela) to the US to teach a number of subjects including math, science, foreign language, special education and other subjects.
     

  • Teaching Excellence and Achievement (TEA) Program - TEA is a six-week program that includes seminars on curriculum development, lesson planning, instructional technology, and new teaching methodologies. Fellows participate in a practicum in a US secondary school where they work closely with US teachers and students. The program provides cultural enrichment, mentoring, and support.
     

  • TPG Cultural Exchange - This cultural exchange program recruits international exchange teachers from countries around the world.  Their cultural exchange program helps teachers and schools in South Carolina along with several other states in the US.  They help schools across subject areas including Math, Science, Special Education, Elementary, English and Spanish subject teachers.
