Globalized Lesson Plans

By Me:

  • Literature of the Middle East & North Africa (ELA, gr. 9-12) - In this plan, students contextualize literature within the location, language, and life of predominately Muslim countries, then practice global citizenship by discussing issues in the news related to these regions, connecting with Muslim peers abroad, and embracing Muslim students at their own school.

By Others TGC Alumni:

  • A Sense of Place (ELA, gr. 9-12) - In this unit plan, students examine their own places, then use the lens of Africa to examine how setting shapes identity.

  • Earth Structure & Resources (ELA, gr. 6-8) - Students will be learning about minerals and natural resources throughout the world. Specifically, they will analyze soil, examine processes to create rocks, identify major categories of rocks, and test minerals for different physical properties. They will explore the different parts of the world from which natural resources are found and examine how those resources are used. They will share a soil analysis project with a group of students in another part of the world. They will finish by creating an advertising campaign to encourage the decrease use or recycling of metals and minerals.

  • Emergent Diseases (Science, gr. 9) - This plan globalizes the study of diseases and introduces students to epidemiology as a globalized endeavor.

  • Energy (Physics, gr. 11-12) - Students learn about the conservation of mechanical energy and the various forms of energy, particularly how potential energy is transformed into usable energy.

  • Just Another Day in Kenya (Science, gr. 3) - Students will explore the craft of diary writing while learning about the geography, animals, culture, and traditions of Kenya, as well as similarities and differences in daily life of US and Kenyan students.
